The clients of this project were looking to add an extra guest bedroom, along with a rear extension for a utility, dining room and kitchen.

The existing inter-war house was substantial, but the emphasis and importance of the rooms no longer suited modern living; where the kitchen is of greater focus. It also didn’t relate well to the substantial gardens.

Combined with some internal alterations we managed to work a solution that didn’t extend quite as much as originally assumed, yet achieved all of the brief’s room requirements. A side extension over an existing garage provided a separate guest suite, and a single storey rear extension remodelled the ground floor to have better public-private function and greatly improved kitchen-diner.

Good connection with the large rear garden makes the most of this inner city asset.

The practice is now progressing onto detailed construction drawings ready for building control approval and for builders to price and build from.
